Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (204ºC).
Prepare the BBQ dry rub. Combine all the BBQ dry rub ingredients in a small bowl - sugar, paprika, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Season the chicken. First, use paper towels to pat the chicken breasts dry. Then, brush both sides of each chicken breast with avocado oil. Then, sprinkle the BBQ dry rub mixture over both sides of the chicken breasts, pressing gently to help it adhere.
Air fry the chicken. Transfer the seasoned chicken breasts to the air fryer. Then, cook for 14 - 20 minutes at 400ºF (204ºC). Flip the chicken halfway through. Starting at the 14-minute mark, check the chicken’s internal temperature. The chicken breasts are fully cooked once the thickest part reaches 165ºF (74ºC).
Once cooked, remove it from the air fryer and rest at room temperature for 5 minutes.
Serve and enjoy. Slice the air-fried grilled chicken and serve it with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
Remember that cooking durations may differ depending on the chicken’s thickness and your air fryer’s size and model. Before serving, ensure it has been cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165ºF (74ºC).
Tenderize the chicken breast into even thickness for even cooking, creating a juicier result.
If your air fryer doesn't have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 380°F (193°C) and then let it cook for 4-5 minutes without food.
You can skip preheating by adding 2-4 minutes to your cooking time. Increment gradually to prevent burning the grilled chicken.
I used a 6-quart (air fryer) to test the grilled chicken. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.
