How to Cook Green Beans in the Air Fryer?

Making air fryer green beans is quick and easy. It only takes a few minutes, from fresh to an excellent side dish!

You’ll be done cooking your french beans/string beans in less time than it takes to preheat an oven or bring a pot of water to a boil, if you wanted to roast or boil the beans.

Air frying really is the fastest way!

1. Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (204ºC).

Preating Instant Pot Vortex Plus Air Fryer to 400°F (204°C).

If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 400ºF (204ºC) and then let it cook for 5 minutes.

Preheating your air fryer is ideal for achieving more accurate results.

2. Wash and trim the green beans.

Wash the beans well and gently pat the beans dry. Using your hands or a paring knife, remove the stem tip of green beans and discard. You can opt to remove both ends of the beans; it isn’t necessary but some people prefer the beans that way. Up to you!

3. Coat green beans with seasonings.

Add trimmed beans to a medium bowl and add olive oil, crushed garlic, salt and pepper. Toss well.

4. Air fry french beans for 4-6 minutes.

When the air fryer is preheated, add the seasoned green beans and cook under tender, about 4-6 minutes, tossing once while cooking.

📝 Note: I used a 6-quart air fryer to test this recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For best results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.

5. Serve & enjoy!

When the beans are cooked, carefully transfer them to a plate and serve immediately. Sprinkle the beans with some fresh lemon zest for an even more satisfying dish and beautiful presentation.

And there you have it! Your air fryer green beans are now ready to be served as a delicious side dish to your main course.

It would pair well with just about any main dish or protein.

I personally love green beans dipped in a little garlicky aioli, which can be made by combining fresh or roasted garlic (crushed), mayonnaise, lemon juice and a pinch of salt and pepper.

But honestly, these beans are so good, you could eat them by themselves!

Freezing & Storage

Freezing: Freezing air fried green beans can be tricky, because reheating them once they’ve been frozen can make them mushy. You can freeze them, though, for up to 3 months:  Let them cool completely, spread them out on a sheet tray, freeze until hard, then add to an airtight freezer bag or container. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight then follow the reheat instructions below.

Fridge: Once the beans have cooled, add to an airtight container or zip top bag and store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Reheating: The best way to quickly reheat the beans is by microwaving them on 50% power for 1 minute or until hot. This will prevent them from getting too mushy while being reheated. To reheat in an air fryer, preheat the air fryer to 375°F and add the beans, cooking for 2-3 minutes or until heated through.
