We know you’re going to fall in love with this delicious and flavor-packed air fryer banana egg rolls.

Turon, also known as banana lumpia, is a traditional Filipino snack with various fillings. The most popular filling is banana, caramel, and sometimes jackfruit, as we’ve used in this recipe. Other fillings that are sometimes used include sweet potato, mango, and coconut.

The key to making a good turon, or banana egg rolls, is choosing the right variety of banana. Traditionally, saba bananas are used, as they have a tougher texture that doesn’t turn too mushy when fried.

Using ripe saba bananas will yield the best results. However, if you can’t find saba bananas, regular bananas are a good alternative.

In our local grocery store, we couldn’t find saba bananas, so we tried using Thai bananas and regular bananas instead. Unfortunately, the Thai bananas didn’t taste as good as we hoped; they were too tender and lacked sweetness.

So, regular bananas are the best option if you can’t find saba bananas.

This recipe is simple, and the flavor of the cooked banana is delicious!

To prepare these egg rolls, we first prep the bananas before stuffing them with dulce de leche and jackfruit, and rolling them in the egg roll wrappers. Then, they are lightly sprayed with cooking oil and air fried until golden and delicious!

Let’s get frying!

Air Fryer Banana Egg Roll Dessert Ingredients

Ingredients for banana egg rolls air fryer dessert

You can find the exact measurements of the recipe ingredients and customize the serving size in the recipe card after the detailed step-by-step instructions section.

Or as much flavor as these dessert egg rolls pack, they don’t require many ingredients. You’ll need:

  • Medium egg roll wrappers
  • Ripe saba or regular bananas
  • Dulce de leche spread
  • Jackfruit in a can
  • Neutral cooking oil spray

If you have a hard time finding any of these ingredients at your local store, try an Asian grocery store like HMart! They’re bound to have all the necessary ingredients.

We’ve mentioned this before, but we just want to say that when buying cooking sprays, be sure to buy one that doesn’t contain propellants. The propellants in cooking sprays can damage and even ruin the coating used on air fryer baskets. Choose a cooking spray that has the oil as the only ingredient, when possible.

If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 350°F or 177°C and then let it cook without food for 5 minutes.

You may also skip this step by adding 2-4 minutes to your cooking time or until you achieve your desired finish.

Step 2: Slice the bananas and the jackfruit.

Slicing jackfruit and banana

Prepare the bananas by cutting the ends to remove the peels and slicing lengthwise. Repeat with all bananas. To prepare the jackfruit, open the can and tear or cut the fruit into small strips.

Step 3: Put together the banana egg rolls.

Lay a wonton wrapper flat. Lay two banana halves, cut-sides up, in the middle of the wrapper so that the bananas are going across the wrapper from corner to corner.

Spread one banana half with about ½ tsp of dulce de leche and then top with jackfruit pieces. Top the covered banana half with the other banana half, making a sandwich with the fillings in the center.

Folding in from the outside corners, roll the filled banana in the wrapper and seal with a little water. Repeat with remaining egg rolls.

Step 4: Air fry banana egg rolls for 10-12 minutes.

When the air fryer is preheated, add the egg rolls in a single layer and spray lighting with cooking oil. Air fry, flipping once halfway through, until golden brown and crisp, about 10-12 minutes total.

I used a 6-quart air fryer to test this recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.

Step 5: Serve and enjoy your air fried banana egg rolls!

Notes

  • If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 350°F or 177°C and then let it cook without food for 3-4 minutes.
  • You can also skip preheating by adding 2-4 minutes to your cooking time. Increment gradually to prevent burning your egg roll banana dessert.
  • The riper the banana, the better. And if you can find fresh jackfruit, that’s even better
  • If you have larger egg roll wrappers that can wrap around the entire banana, there’s no need to slice the banana crosswise.
  • Alternatively, you can also use spring roll wrappers instead of egg roll wrappers.
  • I used a 6-quart Instant Pot Vortex Plus to test the air fryer banana egg rolls recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.
