How to Cook Shake and Bake Pork Chops in an Air Fryer?
You’ll have succulent pork chops with crunchy exteriors with just a few simple steps.
Step 1: Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (204ºC).
If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, set your desired temperature then let it cook for 5 minutes without food.
🚨 Important: Reduce the cooking temperature to 380°F (193°C) if you’re using a 4-quart air fryer or smaller. They are hotter due to the heating element being closer to the food.
Step 2: Prepare the Shake n’ Bake station.
Place the shake and bake mix into a large Ziploc bag. This is where we’ll ‘shake’ it.
In a shallow dish, beat the large egg(s) until they’re well combined. This egg will help the shake and bake mix adhere perfectly to the boneless pork chops.
While the box might suggest using water, I’d advise against it. When using the shake-and-bake mix, water can dilute the flavors and produce a less crispy texture. Instead, opt for the beaten egg, as mentioned in the recipe.
The egg, on the other hand, will provide better binding and enhance the overall taste and texture of the pork chops, making them irresistibly delicious and perfectly crispy.
Step 3: ‘Shake’ the pork chops (to coat)
Pat dry the boneless pork chops using paper towels. This step helps the shake and bake mix adhere better to the chops.
Dip each pork chop into the beaten egg, ensuring both sides are coated. Let any excess drip off.
Then, place the egg-coated pork chop into the Ziploc bag with the shake and bake mix. Seal the bag and shake it well until the chop is evenly coated with the mixture.
Depending on the bag size and pork chop’s size, you might have to do it individually.
Step 4: Air fry pork chops for 10 – 13 minutes at 400ºF (204ºC).
Gently transfer the shake and bake pork chops in the air fryer basket, ensuring they are arranged in a single layer without overlapping. This even placement allows the hot air to circulate around each meat, resulting in consistent cooking.
Now:
Grab your avocado oil in a spray bottle and lightly coat both sides of the pork chops. This thin layer of fat helps facilitate the browning process and promotes that delightful crispy texture during air frying.
Air fry the pork chops at 400ºF (204ºC) for 10 – 13 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. When you flip it, spray the other side with avocado oil too.
✦ Cooking time will vary depending on several factors, including your air fryer’s size, the quantity you’re making, and your pork’s thickness. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure your pork chops are cooked properly. Fully cooked pork will have a minimum internal temperature of 145ºF (63ºC).
Also, if you use bone-in pork chops, it will have a different cooking time.
Step 5: Serve & enjoy!
After cooking, rest the pork chops at room temperature for 3 – 5 minutes to lock in those flavorful juices.
Finally, serve your Air Fried Shake and Bake Pork Chops. Pair them with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, or a refreshing salad.
For extra flavor, you can also drizzle your chops with a zesty sauce, like barbecue or honey mustard.
Freezing & Storage
Freezing: If you have extra cooked pork chops, you can freeze them later. Place the cooked pork chops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them cook to room temp. Then, freeze them until solid (about 2 hours minimum).
After freezing, place the items in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag. Separate each layer with parchment paper. These chops will stay flavorful for up to 3 months in the freezer.
To reheat the frozen cooked pork chops, simply place them in a preheated air fryer and cook them for 12 – 15 minutes at 380ºF (177ºC), flipping halfway through.
Refrigerator: Otherwise, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, use the air fryer at 375ºF (190ºC) for 5 – 7 minutes until they’re warm and crispy again.

- Prepare the Shake n’ Bake station. Place the shake and bake mix into a large Ziploc bag. In another shallow dish or plate, beat the large egg until well-combined.

Notes
- Considering that cooking time varies depending on the meat’s thickness (and your air fryer’s specs), always check with a meat thermometer if your pork is cooked thoroughly. The pork’s safe internal temperature is a minimum of 145ºF (63ºC).
- If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 380°F (193°C) and then let it cook for 4-5 minutes without food.
- You can skip preheating by adding 2-4 minutes to your cooking time. Increment gradually to prevent burning the shake and bake pork chops.
- I used a 6-quart (air fryer) to test the shake and bake pork chops. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.
