This Air Fryer Big Mac Egg Rolls recipe will give Mcdonald’s a run for its money. It’s 10x better than their signature burger! 🤯 Fry it, to believe it!

Just like a traditional burger, we paired Big Mac Egg Rolls or with with fries. The dipping sauce is so good! It goes really well with the egg rolls and the fries.

Main Ingredients

  • Ground beef*
  • Salt and pepper
  • Onion, minced and de-flamed*

Ground Beef

It’s better to use medium lean ground beef since we need the fat to add more flavor to the big mac egg rolls.

Fun Fact: Did you know egg rolls and spring rolls are different?

Egg roll wrappers are thicker and contain eggs, whereas spring roll wrappers are thinner and don’t have eggs. Moreover, most spring rolls usually contain vegetable stuffing.

Cheese

Any type of cheese you like will work just as well. I like the mozzarella cheese for this recipe as it adds that string cheese effect. And, of course, flavor.

Big Mac Sauce

🚨Important! The Big Mac Egg Rolls Air Fryer won’t be complete without the sauce. So, you MUST NOT skip the sauce.

Don’t worry, the sauce is super easy to make. Simply combine these ingredients in no particular order.

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Yellow mustard
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic, grated
  • White vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Air Fryer Big Mac Egg Rolls in an Air Fryer?

The most difficult part in making the Big Mac Egg Rolls is wrapping them. It took me several attempts to wrap it flawlessly, but don’t fret, you’ll master it after 3-5 attempts.

If you’re up for the challenge, let’s get started!

1. Deflame the onion.

After mincing your onion, submerge it under cold water for 10-20 minutes. By doing so, we are dialing back the strong onion flavor. Give it a rinse after 10-20 minutes, then set it aside.

2. Saute your ground beef.

Lightly grease a pan with oil, and place the pan over medium-high heat. Wait for the pan to heat up, then place the ground beef. Saute for 6-8 minutes or until you see some browning for a bolder flavor.

Then, turn off your stove and set your ground beef aside for assembly.

💡Pro Tip: The browning is called Maillard reaction. It’s a chemical reaction that happens when food is heated giving it a more complex flavor. In simple terms browning your dish makes it tastier.

3. Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (204ºC) for 5 minutes.

You can skip preheating by adding 2-5 minutes to your cooking time. Then check every 1-2 minutes to prevent your egg rolls from getting burned.

4. Assemble your Big Mac egg rolls.

Follow this step-by-step tutorial to wrap your Big Mac Egg Rolls.

It took us a while to make a wrap a perfect egg roll. This recipe requires a little bit of patience, but it’s all worth it.

In a nutshell, here’s how to assemble the Big Mac Egg Roll:

  1. Place the egg roll wrapper on a flat surface.
  2. Then, add the fillings in this particular order: cheese slice, cooked ground beef, deflamed onion, and pickles.
  3. Fold the bottom and the sides of the wrapper towards the center.
  4. Roll it towards the remaining flap while tucking the sides.
  5. Add water to the remaining flap, and seal it with water.

5. Brush the egg rolls with cooking oil or egg wash.

Optional: Brushing your Big Mac egg rolls with oil is completely optional. It will be fine even without doing this.

However, I just want to point out that the extra oil makes the egg roll a little crispier and more appetizing.

6. Air fry the Big Mac egg rolls for 8 – 10 minutes at 400ºF (204ºC).

Cook the Big Mac egg rolls in the air fryer for 8 – 10 minutes at 400ºF (204ºC) until golden brown. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you can cook up to 8 egg rolls in one go.

Flipping is optional if your egg rolls are adequately spaced.

After it’s done cooking, set it aside for 5 minutes.

📝 Note: I used a 6-quart air fryer to make this recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on the type of your air fryer. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time, and add 1-2 more minutes until you’re satisfied with the finish.

7. Prepare the sauce.

While waiting for the egg rolls to finish cooking, let’s make the legendary Big Mac sauce.

In a large bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, onion powder, grated garlic, and white vinegar. Then, salt and pepper to taste

8. Serve with your choice of sides and dipping sauce!

Big Mac Egg Rolls

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion diced and de-flamed
  • 15 tablespoons relish
  • 15 Egg rolls wrappers
  • 15 American cheese slices
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds optional
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Big Mac Sauce (copycat)

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 clove garlic grated
  • 1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper

Instructions
 

  • De-flame the onion. Dice your onion, then submerge it in cold water for 10-20 minutes. Afterward, drain the water. Deflaming removes the strong taste of the onion.

  • Sauté the beef. Lightly grease a pan with oil, and place the pan over medium-high heat. Wait for the pan to heat up, then place the ground beef. Saute for 6-8 minutes or until you see some browning for extra flavor. Once it's fully cooked, take it from the heat, and set it aside.

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400ºF (204ºC) for 5 minutes.

  • Assemble the egg roll. While preheating, wrap the big mac egg rolls. 1.) On a clean surface, lay an egg roll wrapper flat (diamond-shaped); 2.) Then, place cheese on top; 3.) Add about 3 tbsps of cooked beef, 1 tbsp onion, and 1 tbsp relish on top of the cheese; 4.) Wet the corners of the wrapper with water to ensure that they stick when you roll them; 5.) Now, fold the bottom half and the sides toward the center (tightly); 6.) Finally, roll the Big Mac Egg Rolls. Repeat until you’ve used up all the ingredients.

  • (Optional) Brush the egg rolls with cooking oil.

  • Air fry the Big Mac egg rolls for 8 – 10 minutes or until golden brown at 400ºF (204ºC). Space them out evenly.

  • While air frying the Big Mac egg rolls, prepare the sauce. Mix the following ingredients: mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, onion powder, grated garlic, white vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste.

  • If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat button, set the temperature to 400ºF (204ºC) and let it air fry for 5 minutes.
  • You can skip preheating by adding 2-5 minutes to your cooking time. Then check every 1-2 minutes to prevent your egg rolls from getting burned.
  • Alternatively, you can caramelize the onion with the beef’s fat instead of de-flaming them. On medium-low heat, sauté the onion for 3-5 minutes or until translucent.
  • If you want to save time, you can use canned relish. That’s what I did instead of making one from scratch.
  • When assembling the egg rolls, drain the fat from the ground beef. The extra liquid will make your egg rolls soggy and difficult to work with.
  • I used a 6-quart air fryer to make the Air Fryer Big Mac Egg Rolls. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time. Continue air frying until you achieve your desired finish.
