How to Air Fry Portobello Mushrooms?
Air frying Portobello mushrooms is one of the quickest methods to prepare this tasty vegetarian dish. After preparing the seasoning, it only takes 5-6 minutes to roast them to perfection.
Step 1: Prepare the Portobello mushroom caps.
Using a slightly damp cloth or kitchen towel, remove any visible dirt from the mushroom. Then, gently remove the stem by applying pressure. If desired, you can also remove the gills from the mushroom cap.
You can cook the mushroom stems along with the mushroom cap or chop them into small pieces to make a stuffed version of this dish.
💡 Pro Tip: Avoid washing mushrooms with water as they tend to absorb moisture, which can affect their texture and flavor.
Step 2: Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (204°C).
If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 400ºF (204ºC) and then let it cook for 5 minutes without food.
🚨 Important: Reduce the cooking temperature to 380°F (193°C) if you’re using a 4-quart air fryer or smaller. They are hotter due to the heating element being closer to the food.
Step 3: Prepare the basting sauce.
In a small bowl, mix together the seasonings: oil, garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, and black pepper. Ensure they are well combined. Then, have a pastry brush prepared for the next step.
Step 4: Air fry the Portobello mushrooms for 5-6 minutes.
Air fry the Portobello mushrooms for 5-6 minutes.
Start by placing them in the air fryer with the cap side up, then brush them with the basting sauce and roast them for 3-4 minutes.
Flip the mushrooms, baste the other side, and continue cooking for another three to four minutes.
Roast the mushrooms until golden and tender.
✦ I used a 6-quart air fryer to test this recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.
Step 5: Serve and enjoy your air fried Portobello mushrooms!
Now, that’s how to make roasted Portobello Mushrooms in the air fryer.
Allow it to rest for a few minutes and serve it with your choice of salad. If you’re following a vegan diet, skip the feta cheese like I did above. It’s for presentation purposes only.
All that’s left for you is to savor your well-deserved reward—a healthy, tasty, and filling meal that’s worthy to be on your go-to low-carb recipe list.
