Have you ever tried deep fried Oreos?
They’re sooo good… Addicting even!
I have vivid memories of walking around the carnival, the one that came once a year to the school nearby, looking into every neon and fluorescent-lit food cart until my eyes landed on the words “Fried Oreos.”
Taking that first bite into powder-sugar-covered bliss always marked the beginning of summer.
I have always loved fried Oreos (and, well, fried things in general), but I had never actually made them until now.
The idea of battering up the chocolate sandwich cookies to dunk in hot, splattery oil just never appealed to me, as much as I loved them.
But then, the idea came: air fried Oreos!
Obviously, they aren’t exactly like their deep-fried cousins, but they’re still delicious. And, they avoid the calories and mess from deep-frying!
In this recipe, we wrap the Oreos in pre-made dough (Pillsbury Crescents) and air fry until golden and crispy. That’s it!
There’s a lot of room for finishing with different toppings or even using different flavored Oreos, and we are all about mixing and matching here!

Air Fryer Oreos Ingredients
The ingredients for this dessert hack seriously couldn’t be simpler!
- Oreos
- Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough
After a quick search, we found all these flavors of Oreos, in addition to the classics: Toffee Crunch, Chocolate Hazelnut, Java Chip, Mint, Birthday Cake, Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Caramel Coconut, and Lemon.
We think it would be a blast to buy a few kinds of Oreos in small sleeves, make them into air-fried Oreos and serve them at a party!
You know they’ll all be delicious but no one will know what flavor they’re getting! Air-Fried Oreo Roulette!
In addition to the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls, you could use other pre-made or even homemade doughs like pizza dough, biscuit dough, or even cookie dough. As long as your dough is thick enough to be wrapped around the Oreo, it should be fine to use!

Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 360°F or 182°C.
If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 360°F (182°C) and then let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
Don’t skip preheating for a more accurate cooking time.
Step 2: Prepare the dough.
Remove the dough from the packaging and separate out into individual sections.
Step 3: Wrap the Oreos.
Place one Oreo on the fatter side of the piece of dough and roll to cover the cookie.
Press and fold the dough around the sides of the Oreo until you have a ball of dough and no Oreo is showing.
Repeat with the remaining Oreos/dough.
Step 4: Air fry the Oreos for 4-6 minutes, flipping halfway.
When the air fryer is preheated, add the wrapped Oreos in a single layer, seam-side down into the air fryer. Air fry for 2-3 minutes before flipping, then continue cooking until all the dough balls are golden brown, about another 2-3 minutes.

How to deep fry oreos?
If you’ve got a hankering for the deep-fried version of this recipe, and we don’t blame you if you do, here are some quick instructions for making delicious deep-fried Oreos.
First, decide on the dough/batter you’d like to use.
In the air fryer version of this recipe, we used a thick dough because it works the best in the air fryer. When you’re deep frying, you can use something thinner, like the more traditional batter used in fried Oreos.
A quick and convenient batter option is pancake batter! Pancake batter is subtly sweet and works well in the deep fryer.
In a large heavy-bottomed pot (preferably a dutch oven), add a few inches of neutral cooking oil and preheat to 375°F (190°C). Have your Oreos and pancake batter ready.
When the oil is preheated, dip each Oreo into the pancake batter, making sure to fully cover and coat the Oreo. Then, allow any excess batter to drip off and carefully transfer to the hot oil.
Repeat with Oreos, being sure not to overcrowd the ones in the pot, leaving some space around each one. If necessary, cook in batches rather than adding too many to the pot at once.
Fry the Oreos for 2-3 minutes per side. When the batter is golden brown, use a spider to transfer the finished fried Oreos to a paper-towel lined plate.
Allow the fried Oreos to cool for a minute, then dust liberally with powdered sugar and serve!
Freezing & Storage
Air-fried Oreos and deep-fried Oreos are best the day they’re made. If you need to store them and reheat them, guidance is below:
Freezing: When the Oreos are completely cool, transfer to a freezer-style zip-top bag or airtight container. Store in the freezer for up to 6 months. To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then follow the reheat instructions.
Fridge: Allow the Oreos to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Reheating: Add to a preheated air fryer at 350°F and air fry until they are hot and re-crisped, about 3 minutes.
