What we like about the Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket Recipe by Pillsbury is its flexibility: you can use any dough you like, add in other little ingredients, and enjoy them with a variety of dipping sauces.

The best dough for this recipe, however, is crescent rolls. That’s the main reason why the brand refers to these wrapped hot dogs as Crescent Dogs. The flakiness and fluffiness of crescent rolls add an extra dimension to these filling snacks.

You can also make a miniature version of this appetizer, aptly named “Piglets in a Blanket.” I’d like to call them mini crescent dogs.

Air fryer pigs in a blanket recipe bite shot, beautifully showcased on a sleek black slate, accompanied by an array of delectable dipping sauces.

The only difference is that you need to slice your wieners in half or use smaller sausages. Plus, you also need to cut the crescent rolls into three long triangles.

Now, I’m wondering why we used Pillsbury Weiner Wraps. Such a bummer. It still tasted good though.

No matter what type of dough you choose, this recipe is one of the easiest and tastiest appetizers you can make. There’s barely any difference in the air frying time and cooking temperature.

Unwrap the package and dough and use a spoon to pop the package open. Once the package is open, unroll the dough and, using the perforations in the dough, divide the dough into sections.

Wrap each hot dog in a section of dough, so that the middle of the hot dog is covered and the ends are exposed.

When the pastry is puffed, golden and crisp, transfer the Pillsbury Pigs in a Blanket to a plate. Allow to cool for 1-2 minutes and then serve with the dipping sauce.

While we love the homemade dipping sauce in this recipe, these pigs in a blanket are also really delicious with cheese sauce, ranch dip, honey mustard or even barbecue sauce!

For a fun and delicious take on these dogs:

When the pigs in a blanket are cooked and first removed from the air fryer, brush the pastry with melted butter and then roll the whole dog in grated parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheating option, you can set the temperature to 360°F (182°C) and then let it cook without food for 3-4 minutes.
  • Don’t skip flipping the hot dogs halfway through, as the dough underneath might end up uncooked.
  • Hot dogs are precooked, but if you want to ensure they are fully cooked, the internal temperature should reach is 165°F (74°C).
  • If you’re using crescent rolls, place one wiener on the shortest side of each triangle and roll up to the opposite point.
  • You can also use Pillsbury Biscuit or Pillsbury Grands. To wrap the hot dog with them, you first need to flatten or stretch them into rectangles or shape them like the crescent rolls for better presentation.
  • For a more golden finish, lightly brush them with high heat cooking oil before air frying.
  • I used a 6-quart Instant Pot Vortex Plus to test the air fryer pigs in a blanket recipe. Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your air fryer and the number of servings you are making. For optimal results, begin with the lower end of the suggested cooking time.
